Policies & HR Processes

  • Tuition Reimbursement: 75% of tuition up to $5,250/yr for job-related courses (grade C or higher). Benefits-eligible employees after 6-month probation.

  • Tuition Waiver / Course Auditing: One undergraduate or graduate course per semester for benefits-eligible faculty and staff. Requires supervisor and instructor approval.

Learning and Career

  • Coursera for Rice: Coursera for Rice opens all of our online courses to Rice University students, faculty and staff for free.

  • Fondren Library Workshops: The Fondren Library offers workshops that cover topics like data analysis, digital media, and more

  • Center for Academic and Professional Communication: The CAPC provides written, oral, and visual communication support for the entire Rice community

  • Center for Career Development: The Center for Career Development offers numerous career resources such as building a LinkedIn profile, resume writing, and interview techniques.

  • Gartner Membership: The Office of Information Technology has partnered with Gartner to provide faculty, staff, and students access to a wealth of resources, including research, white papers, webinars, and more.

  • iO Learning: The io Learning Catalog gives Rice staff and faculty access to a wide variety of professional development resources — including free books, audiobooks, and courses — spanning well-being, operations, leadership, project management, technology, and more.

  • NACUBO Membership: All Rice employees can sign up for a National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) membership. NACUBO members can access many resources, including professional development courses, special events, and podcasts.

  • Glasscock School of Continuing Studies: The Glasscock School’s Professional & Corporate programs are taught by prominent business leaders and subject-matter experts who understand today’s complex, ever-changing landscape. The Glasscock School offers a 10% discount on many professional development courses. 

         Frequently attended courses include: 

  • Jones School of Business: The Jones School's professional development programs equip Rice staff and faculty with practical business skills taught by world-class faculty and industry practitioners. Rice employees receive discounted rates on select programs, and many qualify for tuition reimbursement.
